Expecting the unexpected

Saturday, August 19th, 2006

I’ve been sering the studentry for two years now. Although there are improvements to the level of participation the council is receiving from them, I feel we still need to further entice or do whatever that would make them participate. I know for a fact that we can’t have a perfect attendance or participation (I know this word is a redundant entry, but I can’t think of a better word) rate. Some people just don’t care and don’t acknowledge the efforts we’ve put to every event and activity. But, I can’t help to feel remorse (such a strong word!) or sad about this lack of participation. Afterall, mass communication students are known to be active, or let me say "bibo" when it comes to these kinds of things.

And this coming September, the council will again launch the Mass Media Awareness Month. We lined-up several activities that caters the need of the college, as well as high school students. We also planned a concert (we already got 97.1 as a co-presentor) on September 22. Why am I saying all these? Because, we are expecting that UP students, especially MassComm students, will help and support the council in our endeavor to promote a "Proactive and Transformative Media for a Free Filipino Society (the MMAM theme)." I know all my colleagues in the student council are as nervous as I am. This month is gonna be a big month, and will determine if we can hold big events for the second semester.

I am wishing that CMC students, faculty and staff will support us. Also, I am calling other schools and universities to help us promote this month and the formation of a proactive and transformative media (If you have inquiries regarding the MMAM–concert, media summit for hs students, symposium, production festiveal–you can contact me through my mail (lani1386@yahoo.com), here at friendster, or through YM). Thanks.
